About The Festival
Creative Works Of Art Meet Mother Nature’s Ultimate Creativity Of Fall Color
Nestled in the foothills of the Missouri Ozarks, and just 25 minutes west of St. Louis, the city of Eureka will come alive the entire month of October with colorful and artistic scarecrows posing regally in front of businesses, churches, schools and private homes. These are not your ordinary scarecrows! Each one is a work of art! Whether you visit uptown Eureka, along Fifth Street, running parallel to I-44, or stroll down Central Avenue in downtown/old town Eureka, you will experience a fun and festive feast for the eyes; but make sure you venture down the side streets, too! Scarecrows are “everywhere”!
Join us in acknowledging the incredible organizations that are helping make this festival what it is!
The Great History Of Our Festival
Original hand-painted logo created by Barb Scheer
The Eureka Scarecrow Festival began after its founder, Barb Scheer, visited a similar festival in California. Barb fell in love with the works of art and whimsical nature of the festival and decided then and there that Eureka could and would have a Scarecrow Festival of its own.
Through her tireless efforts and perseverance, the Eureka Scarecrow Festival has grown into a true treasure for our community. In 2017, the Festival transitioned into a community-wide event run by the Eureka Chamber of Commerce, providing additional support to the event. Barb and her creative group, are still the driving force behind the creation of the scarecrows. We’d like to publicly thank Barb and her team for their vision and dedication to the festival and to our community.
